A man was killed after he was involved in a crash in Litchfield on Route 254 that sent his vehicle into a head-on collision with a third car on Tuesday.The collisions occurred at the intersection of Route 254 and Main Street in Northfield just before 10:50 a.m., according to Connecticut State Police.A 62-year-old Thomaston woman driving a 2008 Toyota RAV4 east on Main Street attempted to cross the intersection with Route 254, which led to a 2015 Honda Civic that was heading south on Route 254 striking the Toyota in the southbound lane, state police said.The collision sent the Honda into the northbound lane where a head-on collision occurred with a 2024 Volkswagen Taos that was traveling northbound on RT 254, according to state police.The Honda driver, 82-year-old David Foster Kaufman of Watertown, was taken in an ambulance to Waterbury Hospital where he later died, state police said.The Volkswagen driver, a 43-year-old Southington woman, suffered what was suspected to be a minor injury and was also taken to Waterbury Hospital, according to state police. The Toyota driver did not report any injuries.All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene.The crash remains under investigation.Any witnesses or individuals with dashboard camera footage who were in the area at the time of the crash have been asked to contact Trooper Matthew Brew at 860-626-7900 or matthew.brew@ct.gov.
