Bengaluru Welcomes ‘Nagara Metered Auto App’ for Hassle-Free Rides: Report

Speaking to Moneycontrol, K. Somashekar, a union member of Karnataka Rajya Chalakara Parishath said that the app would serve as an alternative to Ola, Uber, and Rapido. He added, “This new app will be a win-win situation for both passengers and drivers. In many cases, drivers don’t receive the correct fare, even if a longer distance is covered. Now, most people prefer to book autos through an app.” While highlighting that they plan to enroll at least 1,000 drivers in the first phase, Somashekar reportedly added that there won’t be any commission or surge pricing for drivers. However, the auto drivers might have to pay a small subscription fee. As per the report, he further added, “Only autorickshaws with calibrated meters certified by the state Legal Metrology Department will be allowed for enrollment.” Passengers are required to request rides using the app, and once a driver accepts the request, they will share an OTP with the driver. Upon starting the trip, the driver will activate the auto-meter and follow the navigation provided by the app. At the trip’s conclusion, the driver will put the distance covered in the app, and the passenger can settle the fare displayed on the meter, which is regulated by the Legal Metrology Department. Payments can be made directly to the driver in cash or via UPI. For street hailing, passengers have the option to scan a driver’s QR code to book a ride.
