What Is Binance Coin (BNB)?
Binance Coin is used to power the Binance exchange. It primarily serves as a way to convert between cryptocurrencies. Users can trade hundreds of tokens in pairs with the BNB token. Additionally, the token can be used to pay lower fees, loans, payments and travel arrangements. It launched on the Ethereum chain in 2017, but once the Binance Smart Chain was created, the token was moved over and currently trades on BSC.
Binance also uses one-fifth of profits each quarter to buy back BNB tokens and burn them. This can put upward pressure on the price and can mean that BNB’s performance is correlated with the performance of Binance as a whole.
Will BNB Go Past All-Time Highs?
BNB’s previous high of over $690 in May 2021 was approached this month when it went as high as $627. The token has also performed well year to date, up more than 75%. Considering that BNB was as close as 10% below all-time highs (ATHs), it is possible that BNB could surpass $690. Additionally, BNB has largely benefited from a handful of new meme coins that have taken off in popularity. If new meme coins continue to show up and Binance continues offering them, there is room for BNB to continue going up.

BNB currently trades for around $550, which equates to a market cap of over $80 billion. It is up over 150% in the past six months and over 60% in the past 12 months. During highs set in 2021, the market cap went as high as $15 billion. Some of the largest competitors are Coinbase and Bybit.
