Sean Dixon-Bodie, a University of Florida All-American from Bloomfield, jumped his personal best in the finals of U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials triple jump Sunday night and finished fifth overall with a jump of 55 feet, 1 ½ inches.
In order to make the U.S. Olympic team, Dixon-Bodie would have had to finish in the top three and reach the Olympic standard of 56-6. Salif Mane, who jumped a personal best 57 feet, 5 ¾ inches, won the event.
Dixon-Bodie, 22, was competing in his second Olympic Trials. He fouled on his first jump Sunday but his third jump of 54-8 ¾ (which equaled his previous best) boosted him into the top eight and the chance to continue with three more jumps. His last jump was his best.
Also Sunday night, Eric van der Els, 26, of Norwalk finished 14th in the Trials 5,000-meter finals in 13:50.66.
