Boeing reported its highest monthly deliveries of the year in June, despite experiencing a significant annual decline, as orders took a sharp downturn. The aerospace giant delivered 44 aircraft last month, a 27% drop from the 60 it delivered in the same month the previous year. Of these deliveries, 34 were 737 Max jets.
In terms of orders, Boeing recorded 14 new orders in June, comprising three 737 Max jets and 11 777 Freighters. This is a stark contrast to the 304 orders it secured in June 2023, which were predominantly led by the popular 737 Max.
In the second quarter that ended on June 30, Boeing delivered a total of 92 commercial jets, including 69 Max planes. This figure represents a decrease from the 136 jets delivered in the second quarter of 2023, but an increase from the 83 jets delivered in the first quarter of 2024. Quarterly orders totaled 25, notably less than the 131 orders obtained in the first quarter of 2024, and significantly down from the 407 orders recorded in the same period last year.
Boeing is set to report its full second-quarter results on July 31. Analysts surveyed by Capital IQ predict the company’s revenue for this period to be $17.68 billion, which suggests a decline of over $2 billion compared to the $19.75 billion generated in the same quarter last year.
Meanwhile, Airbus revealed on Monday that it delivered 67 aircraft in June, marking a 7% decline year-over-year but representing its highest monthly total for the year so far. The European aerospace manufacturer secured 73 orders in June, a notable improvement from the 27 orders in the prior month, according to company data and an analysis by Truist Securities.
Truist Managing Director Michael Ciarmoli commented on the order activity, noting that while Boeing’s order activity remains limited, Airbus saw a significant rebound in both narrow and wide body platforms. Despite ongoing supply chain constraints, evidenced by Airbus lowering its full-year delivery target last month, Ciarmoli views June’s delivery figures as encouraging and anticipates an uptick in order activity at the upcoming Farnborough Airshow.
