OpenAI introduced a new model, ChatGPT-4o Mini. This announcement was made by OpenAI’s leader, Sam Altman, on July 18, with the model priced at 15 cents per million input tokens and 60 cents per million output tokens. It achieves an impressive 82% on the MMLU benchmark for the ChatGPT model. Altman shared this news on his Twitter account (now known as X), showing his belief that users will find the new model appealing. The launch was positively received, although one user proposed changing the way ChatGPT models are named, a suggestion Altman responded to with a touch of humor.

ChatGPT-4o Mini, among OpenAI’s most effective AI models, is capable of processing various types of content such as text, images, videos, and sound. It features a context window of 128K tokens and can handle up to 16K output tokens per request.

Despite the model’s sophisticated features, there’s a consensus that the current naming system for ChatGPT models requires enhancement. This viewpoint was brought to light in a comment from a user on Altman’s post, which Altman concurred with, hinting at possible modifications in the naming practices of future models.

The recognition of the necessity for a new naming system also indicates that OpenAI is attentive to user input and dedicated to ongoing improvement.
