UNCASVILLE — The Connecticut Sun returned with a vengeance two days after suffering their first loss of the season to the New York Liberty, routing the Indiana Fever 89-72 at Mohegan Sun Arena on Monday.The Sun (10-1) are now undefeated across three meetings with Indiana (3-10) this year, though the victories have been far larger at home. Connecticut beat the Fever by 21 in the season opener in Uncasville on May 14, but it was a four-point game when the Sun played in Indianapolis on May 20. Connecticut’s 89 points on Sunday were its second-highest total of the season, behind only 92 in the first game against Indiana.DiJonai Carrington put together another dominant performance as the primary guard on Fever star Caitlin Clark. The rookie led Indiana with 10 points on 3-for-6 shooting at halftime, but she also already had three fouls and three turnovers — all three steals by Carrington. Meanwhile, Carrington scored above her season average in the first half alone with 12 points shooting 4-for-5 from the field, and she gave Connecticut a massive momentum boost into the locker room with a steal against Clark that turned into a fast-break layup to beat the second quarter buzzer.Connecticut had easily its most dominant start of the season, leading Indiana by double-digits after the first quarter 26-15. DeWanna Bonner was immediately explosive offensively, hitting her first five shots in a row to lead the Sun with 15 points at halftime. It was a well rounded offensive effort for Connecticut though with all five starters finishing in double digits.

Thomas had 10 boards in the first half alone, and Connecticut dominated in the paint with 36 points to Indiana’s 28. The Fever were also out-rebounded 41-26. Indiana forward NaLyssa Smith struggled to produce guarded by Thomas with just two points and no rebounds, though 2023 Rookie of the Year Aliyah Boston led the team with 14 points and 12 rebounds plus five assists.

She started the third quarter but returned to the bench after picking up a fourth foul with under five minutes left and did not return to the game in the fourth. The Sun opened up their lead even further with the rookie phenom off the court, and coach Stephanie White was experimenting with full lineups off the bench as early as the end of the third quarter after the team went up by 27.Tiffany Mitchell was a standout again off the bench after she scored a season-best 12 points against the Liberty on Saturday. The eighth-year veteran logged 10 points, hitting her lone attempt from 3-point range and going 3-for-3 at the free throw line. She was tied for the highest plus-minus among the Sun’s reserves at plus-7. Moriah Jefferson also finished with a plus-7 in her first game back after missing two with a right ankle injury, logging four points on 2-for-4 shooting from the field.
