An apartment building in Bridgeport was evacuated overnight after an explosion outside one of the units drew a response from state, local and federal authorities.Damage from the explosion was discovered when Bridgeport firefighters and police responded to the building, at 1512 North Ave., on a report of smoke coming from the third floor shortly before 12:30 a.m., according to a statement issued by Capt. Kevin Gilleran of the Bridgeport Police Department.Gilleran said it appeared as though an explosion went off in a hallway outside one of the units.No injuries were reported.The tenants of the building were evacuated and taken to a temporary shelter at an area school, where Gilleran said they would remain until the building was deemed safe.The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad and bomb technicians with the FBI responded to investigate along with Bridgeport police detectives.According to Gilleran, North Avenue was closed between Oak and James Streets while authorities were at the scene.Anyone with information has been asked to contact Bridgeport Police Detective Sgt.
