When Chromecast was launched by Google it was one of the most wonderful and innovative devices which in turn engaged the human tendency to stream media on TVs from phones, tablets, or computers. Its slim profile and HDMI dongle form factor did not encroach on the aesthetics of any home cinema set-up. Later, Chromecast changed and there were Chromecast Ultra, which supports 4K cast, and Chromecast with Google TV Streamers which came with a physical remote and a far better interface.
Yet, these updates implied additional features but did not essentially change the principle of Chromecast’s work. Regarding lightness and ease of use, users liked it, but it was necessary to expand the set of functions and capabilities offered by the market. Aware of this change, Google started to look at the possibilities of improving its streaming services. This transition to a new design of set-top boxes presenting their content to the public is welcomed.
Some of the most striking changes that have been observed in the new streaming device of Google are design modifications from an HDMI dongle design to a set-top box design. Google’s set-top box, which is planned to be called Google TV Streamer, will have a thin slanted pill-like surface, unlike most popular devices with compact dongle design. This new design does not only have an aesthetical advantage but also has functionality in terms of performance, heat dissipation, etc.
The concept of the set-top box is also more flexible and provides for additional potent hardware that will be capable of supporting advanced applications and therefore will offer consumers seamless use. Also, the larger size could allow for better heat dissipation which might be important due to the heat generated by the laptops once in use. This step shows that Google is now planning to go head-to-head with high-end streaming devices such as the Apple TV 4K.
