Hartford HealthCare names new COO and president for Hartford region

Hartford HealthCare announced two executive promotions, according to the health system.The first, Bimal Patel, formerly the president of Hartford HealthCare’s Hartford and Northwest Regions and senior vice president, has been named executive vice president and COO, according to the health system.Cheryl Ficara, RN, formerly the senior vice president for operations in the Hartford Region, has been promoted to president of the Hartford Region and a senior vice president at HHC, the health system said in a statement. He would later serve as the president of the Hartford Region since 2017, and assumed additional responsibilities for the Northwest Region in 2022.Cheryl Ficara, RN, formerly the Senior Vice President for Operations in the Hartford Region, has been promoted to President of the Hartford Region and a Senior Vice President at HHC, per a release. She is the first female president of the Hartford Region.Ficara began her career at Hartford Hospital as a critical care nurse in 1990, the statement said, and became “widely respected as a committed nursing leader, mentor and advocate for professional practice.” She assumed the role of regional vice president for Patient care in January 2011, and later was named the Region’s senior vice president for operations in 2022.“The presidency of the region that includes our largest hospital, and the oversight of the many facets of operations across HHC, are challenging and critical roles ― especially at a time of accelerated change and innovation,” Flaks said. “Based on their past successes, and their proven leadership, I have every confidence that Cheryl Ficara and Bimal Patel will advance our aim to be more accessible, affordable, equitable and excellent for all.”
