Massachusetts man charged in CT kidnapping to appear in court in Hartford

A Massachusetts man who allegedly stole a car with a toddler inside it and drove the car across state lines to Connecticut prompting an Amber Alert is scheduled to appear in court in Hartford on Monday.Vadim Vorobyov, 52, of Springfield, was arrested in March after he allegedly stole a Toyota Camry while Liam David Pagan, a 3-year-old boy with autism, was inside, records show.Massachusetts AMBER Alert: Autistic child, 3, found safe, suspect in custodyThe kidnapping led to an Amber Alert and a frantic search for Pagan, who was later found at a hotel in Windsor.Connecticut State Police said they tracked the stolen car to Windsor. There, an Enfield Police Department K-9 traced a scent to a local business, where police found Vorobyov.He is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree kidnapping, risk of injury to a child, first-degree larceny and larceny of a motor vehicle, court records show.At his arraignment in April, a bail commissioner said in court that Vorobyov had no criminal record in Connecticut. He has a record in Massachusetts on charges of assault and battery in 2016. In an older case dated back to 1993, he was convicted of stealing a vehicle, the commissioner said.Vorobyov is being held at the Cheshire Correctional Institution in lieu of a $830,000 bond, Department of Correction records show.He is scheduled to appear in court at 10 a.m. Monday, records show.
