One person arrested after crash on Merritt Parkway involving stolen car

One person was arrested and two people are on the loose after fleeing from a stolen vehicle following a crash on the Merritt Parkway on Sunday.The Connecticut State Police contacted the Westport Police Department around 1:50 p.m. on Sunday about a crash that occurred on the Merritt Parkway in Westport in the area of the Clinton Avenue overpass, according to Westport Captain David Wolf.The state police reported that three individuals fled from one of the cars that was involved, Wolf said.Officers later confirmed that the vehicle they ran from had been reported stolen from another city, according to Wolf.Westport and Norwalk Police Department officers, as well as troopers, covered the area in an effort to locate thesuspects. “As such, there was a large police presence on the local streets that were in close proximityto the accident scene,” Wolf said.One of the suspects was taken into custody and turned over to the state police, Wolf said. According to Wolf, the suspect suffered injuries related to the car crash and was transported to Norwalk Hospital.Westport K-9 and drone units assisted in the search for the other two suspects who were not located, according to Wolf.“We believe that the two people who are still outstanding are no longer in the area, but as always, should anyone observe any suspicious activity, please call the police immediately,” Wolf said.
