Readers speak: Ignoring CT traffic laws a spreading problem

Ignoring traffic laws a spreading problem
Should we just abolish the traffic laws?  No more stopping at red lights or stop signs.  No more heeding of solid lines on a road that mean don’t change lanes. No more speed limits. I mean, people don’t pay attention anyway.  Stop lights and stop signs seem to mean “stop only if you see someone coming” or otherwise feel free to go. It appears to me that traffic laws are just traffic suggestions in most people’s minds.  So doing away with them would just make everyone’s lives much simpler.  Then we wouldn’t get frustrated or angry every time someone ignores a traffic law, which is most of the time.  Our expectations would match reality.

A way to fight bird flu
As avian flu runs rampant through American cattle, now is the time for our political leaders to support increased public funding for cultivated-meat research. For those who don’t know, cultivated-meat is grown from animal cells, without slaughter. Since livestock are removed from the process, the risk of zoonotic viruses making the jump to humans is reduced.
Despite admirable progress by the private sector, technological hurdles remain in order for the new protein to be mass-produced at an affordable price. These can be overcome with government money for cellular-agriculture development. Politicians who care about public health, not to mention the environment and animal welfare, should back the effort.
