State police arrest CT man accused of driving nearly 120 mph on I-84

A man was charged with reckless driving after state police allege that he was clocked going nearly double the speed limit on Interstate 84 in Tolland on Monday.A trooper was conducting traffic enforcement on I-84 East in the area of Exit 66 when a driver in a white Toyota Camry was spotted traveling at a high rate of speed in the left lane shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to Connecticut State Police.The trooper used a laser to clock the vehicle’s speed, which allegedly registered at 118 mph in a 65 mph zone, state police said.The trooper then caught up to the motorist and pulled over the driver. State police said the driver was identified as 29-year-old Rahnda Charles of Mansfield.Charles was taken into custody and transported to Troop C in Tolland. He was charged with one count of reckless driving.State police said the Camry was towed.Charles was later released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Aug. 28.
