The Role of Frequency Converters in Industrial Applications

Different industries have their frequency requirements, and this is mostly according to how they supply power to equipment. Weapon and aviation systems require 400Hz, and with that, equipment that is used on the ground and operates at 400Hz will require ground power support.

Rail systems utilize 100Hz, 91.55Hz, or 25Hz to operate their signaling systems. Boat docks and shipyards also need shore power conversion mechanisms. In 50Hz countries, there are usually power system that operate at the same frequency, and will require a frequency converter to meet the electrical needs of the ships that are build, docked, or repaired in such countries.

In cases where equipment are manufactured in one country and utilized in another country, the need to convert voltage is usually higher. This also applies to frequency as well. In general, 50Hz and 60Hz are the most common frequencies and you’ll find this on most commercial machines. However, there are also applications that will require conversion to higher frequencies. There are so many applications of frequency converters, and this cuts across different industries.
