Troopers dish out $39K in fines after finding commercial vehicle overweight by over 100,000 lbs

State police dished out nearly $40,000 in fines when troopers pulled over a commercial vehicle off of Interstate 84 in Danbury on Wednesday and found numerous load violations, including that the vehicle was more than 100,000 pounds overweight without a special permit.Troopers with the Traffic Services Unit were conducting commercial vehicle enforcement around 7 a.m. on I-84 when they spotted an oversized load bypassing a weigh station scale using backroads, according to Connecticut State Police.Troopers pulled the vehicle over and found several oversized load permit violations, state police said. A photo of the vehicle shared by state police shows what appears to be an excavator being transported.According to state police, the vehicle, which was traveling out of New York, did not have a Connecticut Department of Transportation oversize permit. Using portable scales, state police said they found that the vehicle and its load weighed a total of 183,300 pounds which was 103,300 pounds over the allowed weight without a permit.State police said they also found that six out of the eight axles were not in compliance with the maximum allowed statute weight of 18,000 pounds per axle. The vehicle was also found to be over the maximum allowed height, length and width without a permit, according to state police.Troopers issued fines to the carrier totaling $39,101.State police said the vehicle was “taken out of service.”
