Autism spectrum disorder and female orgasmic difficulty/disorder are the latest qualifying additions to the state’s Medical Marijuana Program, the state Department of Consumer Protection said Monday.The conditions were unanimously approved by the program’s nine-member Board of Physicians for individuals 18 and over. There are now 42 conditions that qualify adults for medical marijuana, and 11 for those under 18. “Thank you to the petitioners who gave thoughtful and well-researched presentations to the Board, and shared their personal stories with these conditions,” said Consumer Protection Commissioner Bryan T. Cafferelli in a statement.“I would also like to thank the Board of Physicians for volunteering their time to share their medical expertise, and for their thoughtful questions and consideration of the petitions,” he said.There are 39,749 medical marijuana patients and 1,816 certifying physicians registered with the state’s program, according to the department. According to the American Sexual Health Association, female orgasmic disorder, impact “a sizable number of women. In the largest US study of female sexual dysfunction, including responses from over 30,000 women, the prevalence of FOD was approximately 21%.”Qualifying patients and their caregivers registered with the Medical Marijuana Program can purchase medical marijuana products at medical marijuana dispensaries and hybrid retailers. Medical marijuana is not subject to sales and excise tax.Medical marijuana patients receive priority entry at hybrid retailers. They may purchase up to 5 ounces per month. Certain products, including those with higher potency and some dosage forms, are only available to registered medical marijuana patients.To petition the Board of Physicians to add a debilitating condition to the list of those qualifying for medical marijuana, go to the program website at http://ct.gov/dcp/mmp.
