An accused assailant remains behind bars for allegedly slashing another woman who was sitting at a slot machine in a Las Vegas gaming property earlier this month.

Elonda Alexander, 38, was apprehended by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) on July 9 for the July 8 stabbing in the Aztec Inn casino, according to Las Vegas TV station KLAS. Eyewitnesses reported Alexander shouting, “I hope you die,” at the unnamed victim during the attack and swearing at her repeatedly.

Over two weeks after the incident, Alexander remains in custody at the Clark County Detention Center with a $20,000 bail. She faces charges of battery with the use of a deadly weapon, along with a second unspecified count. Local prosecutors are now handling her case, and if convicted, she could face a prison sentence.

The victim, who was injured in her back from the repeated stabbings, was rushed to a local hospital. After receiving medical care, she was released and is expected to recover from her wounds, although police have not disclosed the extent of her injuries or whether she required surgery.

In a conversation with police officers, Alexander confessed to the stabbing. She also admitted that she had known the victim well before their encounter at the casino. According to KLAS, the two women, along with an unnamed man, had spent the day together smoking methamphetamine. They eventually went to the Aztec Inn casino to gamble. It is unclear how long they were at the casino before a dispute between Alexander and the victim escalated into the violent attack.

During the attack, Alexander allegedly tossed the knife onto the gaming floor before fleeing the scene. An employee spotted the knife and took it to the casino’s lost and found department. LVMPD officers located the weapon there shortly after the attack and seized it as evidence. While police have not detailed the specifics of the knife, it is unknown if it was covered with the victim’s blood.

Officers also reviewed video footage from the casino’s surveillance cameras, which captured some scenes related to the incident, before making the arrest. Remarkably, Alexander was uninjured during the confrontation.
