Police have charged another Massachusetts resident in connection with a plot in which a driver was purposely struck by a car in South Windsor last spring and their vehicle was stolen when they got out to inspect the damage.Yanassis A. Ruiz, 24, of Greenfield was extradited from Massachusetts and charged Tuesday with conspiracy to commit larceny of a motor vehicle and second-degree failure to appear, according to the South Windsor Police Department.Police said the arrest stems from an incident in April 2023 when Ruiz and Adrian Perez, 20, of Agawam, Massachusetts rear-ended another driver in the area of Chapel Road and Route 5. When the other driver got out of the vehicle to inspect the damage, police allege Perez jumped into the driver seat and took off.The stolen vehicle was recovered about a month later in West Hartford after it had been sold on Facebook Marketplace. Police said they were able to “work backwards” and tie Perez to the theft.Perez was arrested in May and charged with larceny of a motor vehicle. He is free on a $25,000 bond while his case remains pending in Manchester Superior Court.Following her arrest, Ruiz was held on a $25,000 bond and was expected to face a judge on Wednesday.According to police, a third person was involved in the theft, though it was not immediately clear if that individual has been charged.
