Yard Goats’ Adael Amador gets call-up to Rockies; gets hit and steal in MLB debut

It didn’t take long for Adael Amador to show why he’s the Colorado Rockies’ No. 1 prospect, and one of the most highly-thought of in baseball. The 21-year-old second baseman from the Dominican Republic was called up from the Hartford Yard Goats to the big-league club on Sunday, and thrown right into the lineup against the St. Louis Cardinals.In his first at-bat, after what must have been a whirlwind trip from Somerset, N.J. to St. Louis, Amador connected on a bloop single that fell in front of Cardinals right fielder Dylan Carlson for his first major-league hit. A few pitches later, he stole second base.Amador finished 1-for-3 in the Rockies’ 5-1 loss to the Cardinals.The Rockies made the move after starting second baseman Brendan Rodgers was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain.Amador had been struggling with the Yard Goats this season, batting just .194 with a .337 on-base percentage over 209 plate appearances. He had been heating up of late however, slashing .295/.389/.656 with one double, seven home runs, 18 RBI and seven stolen bases across 15 games.He had also stolen 22 bases in 25 attempts so far in Hartford this season.
